A Sister (or Charge Nurse) will be responsible for the care of patients in the same way as the staff nurse is but also has the responsibility of being a shift manager. As shift manager they are responsible for the appropriate staffing of the unit, ensuring the units are adequately stocked and liaising with the wide variety of allied specialties that need to come onto the units. They provide support to both the other nursing members and the senior and junior medical staff.
