The outreach service provides a link between the wards and the units. The service is staffed by experienced nurses who are able to assess patients on the ward, implement care and refer to the ICU staff if they think escalation of care is required.
They also aid in the care of patients being discharged from the units, supporting both the nurses and medical staff on the wards to ensure safe and appropriate care continues.
